Calcium deposits from underground springs form these "tufas" in this salty lake in California - very eerie! Billions of brine shrimp are teeming in it's waters, attracting the nearly 100 species of birds that can be found here... many making a crucial pit stop to fill on the brine shrimp and alkaline flies during their migratory flight.
With the lighting behind us on this morning visit, we felt very fortunate to stumble upon this gem which lay, unbeknown to us, right in our path on our way home from Yosemite.
